Determine the age of your Heater, Air-Conditioner and Water Heater.

Service Equipment such as Heaters, Air-Conditioners and Water Heaters all have an expected service life. Although the actual service life depends on factors including quality of construction, maintenance and environmental conditions; Consistent with industry standards the expected service life is as follows:

Central air-conditioning unit 12-15 years

Gas furnaces 15-20 years

Electric furnaces 20-30 years

Hot water heaters 5-12 years




How can you determine the age of HVAC and Water Heaters?

Look up the manufactured date of your unit using https://www.building-center.org to determine how many year you can expect to get out of it before having to repair or replace.



Tip:

Take a picture of the unit's identification tag with will include the serial number and identify the brand of the unit.






Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to: https://www.building-center.org

  2. Select HVAC or Water Heater

  3. Scroll down and select the first letter of the brand name. M for "Maytag".

  4. Select the Brand Name from the list.

  5. Compare your unit's serial number to the styles of serial number listed to age your unit.
